Amazon Web Services Debuts Data Warehousing Service, Redshift

Seattle-based Amazon Web Services said today that it has rolled out its data warehousing service-in-the-cloud, Amazon Redshift, to all customers. Amazon's Redshift lets users run their own data warehouses via a hosted service, rather than requiring companies to build up their own data warehouse operations in-house. Amazon said that the cost of a Redshift cluster starts for under $1,000 per terabyte per year. Redshift is aimed at enterprises who are looking to crank through terabytes to petabytes of data for information on customers; the company said it sees uses in social, gaming, mobile, advertising, manufacturing, healthcare, e-commerce, and financial services.
