Amazon.com Buys Kindle Text-to-Speech Provider

Amazon.com has acquired IVONA Software, the software developer behind its Kindle "Text-to-Speech", "Voice Guide" and "Explore by Touch" technology, the company said today. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Amazon said that IVONA's technology supports 44 voices in 17 languages, and in addition to Amazon also provides its text-to-speech products and services for thousands of developers, businesses and customers.
