Microsoft Ties Into Wikipedia With Language Tool

Redmond-based Microsoft Research said today that it has linked with online encyclopedia Wikipedia, with a new multilingual content creation tool. According to Microsoft, its new WikiBhasha tool, available in beta, allows contributors to the Wikipedia site to find and translate content into other languages, helping them to then create or edit articles in more than 30 languages. Microsoft specifically said that the tool will specifically help translate large volumes of existing English Wikipedia content into such languages as Arabic, German, Hindi, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. The new software comes out of work at Microsoft's Multilingual Systems Group at Microsoft Research India; "bhasha" means "language" in Hindi and Sanskrit.
