Planetary Resources Dangles Unique Student Job: Asteroid Miner

Bellevue-based Planetary Resources, the asteroid mining venture funded by Charles Simonyi, Google's Larry Page, director James Cameron, and others, has ramped up an effort to attract college students to the company, by sending out a notice to its mailing list for "Asteroid Miners". The company--which is developing technology to mine near-Earth asteroid for raw materials--said it is hiring student interns and co-op students for paid positions at the company. Co-op students work as part of their school work--usually at engineering schools--full time for a semester at high tech companies, and are paid positions to give those students experience at actual high tech companies. The move is somewhat unusual for a startup--usually, larger, more established firms tend to tap into co-op employment--but not unheard of.
