Report: Amazon Dominating Android Tablet Market

A report this week from comScore says that Amazon.com apparently has taken over more than half of the market for Android tablets, with a 54.4 percent share of the Android tablet market as of February. comScore said that its measurement of digital device usage find that the Kindle Fire has almost doubled its share in the past two months from 29.4 percent of tablets in December, to 54.4 percent of tablets in February 2012. The Kindle has surged past the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which only owned 15.4 percent of the market in February, as well as devices such as the Motorola Xoom (7 percent), Asus Transformer (6.3 percent), and Toshiba AT100 (5.7 percent). Amazon has consistently reported that the Kindle Fire is its hottest selling product, although it has not given any details on unit shipments or revenues related to the Kindle Fire.
