    Amazon.com Debuts MP3 Download Store


    Online retailer Amazon.com Inc. announced today that it has launched a public beta of a new digital music download service called Amazon MP3. Amazon said that the service, which debuted today, would offers what the company claims is the world's largest selection of a la carte, DRM-free MP3s. Amazon said the service would carry more than 2 million songs from more than 180,000 artists, from over 20,000 major and independent record labels. Amazon is pricing its MP3 downloads at between 89 and 99 cents, with other tracks available for less.
