Amazon Adds Sony To MP3 Download Effort

Seattle-based Amazon.com said Thursday afternoon that the firm will begin offering DRM-free MP3 music download from Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Amazon said the MP3 versions of Sony's music will be available later this month. Sony is the latest major music label to join Amazon.com's effort to sell MP3 format music files; the effort follows Universal Music Group, EMI, and Warner Music Group in offering music on Amazon's download site. Amazon.com said its music catalog now offers 3.1 million songs from more than 270,000 artists.
