Amazon Aims Squarely At iTunes With New MP3 Store
Amazon.com is aiming squarely at Apple's iTunes store this morning with a new, Amazon MP3 store specifically designed for the iPhone and iPod touch. Amazon said that its new mobile website will allow Apple owners to access its 22 million song catalog, and easily downloaded or played on a user's iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Kindle Fire, Android phone or tablet, as well as other platforms. The new store is Amazon's second move within the last week specifically aimed at Apple's iTunes; just last week, Amazon started automatically converting physical CDs into downloaded MP3s for users--including a user's purchases since 1998--in a clear move to unseat Apple as the leading source for digital music downloads.
