Amazon Awards $1M Prize For Movie

Seattle-based Amazon.com has awarded $1M to the producer of a test movie, and $100,000 to a script writer, as part of its Amazon Studios movie development effort. According to Amazon, it invited filmmakers and screenwriters to submit full-length test movies and scripts as part of the competition. The $1M is going to the movie 12 Princesses, written and directed by Rob Gardner; the script prize of $100,000 goes to Matthew Gossett, for his script Origin of a Species. Amazon said it has now seen more than 700 test movies and 7,000 scripts since it launched in November of 2010; the firm has been looking to promote the effort through cash prizes.
