    Amazon Awards Web Services Start-Up Winners


    Seattle-based Amazon Web Services said last week that it has named Yieldex, a startup developing software to forecast online advertising, as winner of the firm's Amazon Web Services Start-Up Challenge. Amazon said that Yieldex will receive $50,000 ini cash plus $50,000 in Amazon Web Serviecs credits. The contest was open to startups using Amazon's Web Services -- including its computing (EC2) and storage (S3) services, which allow companies to "rent" CPU and storage via a software API at Amazon. The other finalists in the competition were Encoding.com, Knewton, MedCommons, Sonian, Pixily, and Zephyr.
