    Amazon Expands EC2 Beta, Services

Seattle-based Amazon Web Services, the online web software arm of Amazon.com, said this morning that it has opened up its beta of its Amazon EC2 service to all software developers and businesses. Amazon had previously been limiting and screening participants in the program. Amazon EC2 is Amazon's cloud computing service, which allows companies to rent CPU time and computing capacity over the Internet. In addition, Amazon said that it has expanded its computing service to provide a wider range of memory, CPU, and storage options for developers; the addition allows developers to select "Small," "Large," or "Extra Large" instances to better match the CPU and memory consumption of their applications.
