Amazon Launches Content Delivery Network
Seattle-based Amazon.com said today that it has launched Amazon CloudFront, a pay-as-you-go content delivery network. According to Amazon, the new service--part of its Amazon Web Services arm--will allow developers and businesses to distribute content through a network of edge locations. The new service pits Amazon's web services up against a number of content delivery network providers, specifically aiming at the industry's traditional long term contracts and upfront payments. Amazon said that the service will work in conjunction with Amazon S3 and its other web services, and allow developers and businesses to deliver HTTP content through a cached edge network.
