Amazon Opens Pickup Center At University of Illinois at Chicago

Seattle-based Amazon said this morning that it is expanding the number of same day, pickup centers at universities, with a new location at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The new, 2,300 square foot space is the 12th center it is maintaining on a college campus, and is a staffed pickup location for orders. The advent of e-commerce--and especially, Amazon and Amazon Prime--has been overwhelming college mail rooms--as students and their parents have unleashed a torrent of packages sent directly to parents. Those mail rooms--designed more for the occasional letter from mom and dad--instead have had to deal with piles of packages delivering everything from textbooks and toothpaste.
