    Amazon S3 Goes Offline

Amazon.com's web storage service, Amazon S3, went offline this weekend, taking web sites offline, disrupting image loading at hundreds of web sites and other services. According to Amazon.com's AWS status pages, the service went offline around 9:06AM, due to what the firm described as "elevated error rates" in the system; the company had service restored fully by 5:13PM. Sites affected by the outage included online photo site Smugmug, and Internet messaging service Twitter, both of which use Amazon S3 for image storage.
