Amazon To Add Oracle Web Services Option

Seattle-based Amazon Web Services, the web services arm of Amazon.com, said last night that it is planning to launch a new, web services version of Oracle Database 11g via its Amazon Relational Database Service. Exact date and pricing of the new offering was not announced, however, Amazons said the Oracle instances would include "flexible" pricing options, and that existing Oracle customers will be able to run without additional software licensing or support charges. The new service will be available sometime in Q2. The addition of Oracle support comes on top of existing support for MySQL with its RDS service. Amazon's Relational Database Service allows developers to create and maintain a cloud-based database, making it easier for those developers to scale out their web-based applications.
