Amazon Upgrades EC2 M4 Instance To Haswell

Seattle-based Amazon.com has upgraded the company's Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) service with the latest and greatest in processors, saying late Thursday that it now is offering up custom, 2.4 Ghz Intel Xeon E5-2676 v3 Haswell processors in the M4 instances. Those instances also now include dedicated bandwidth to Amazon EBS, and better networking performance. Amazon said it is targeting its M4 instances for such applica as in-memory databases, gaming servers, caching fleets, batch processing, and business applications. Amazon offers up a range of different instance types, so that developers can tune the amount of computing resources they need for their applications. Amazon's instance types range from small, general purposes machines (T2.micro) with 1 CPU and 1G of memory, to massive compute instances with 40 CPUs and 160GB of memory (M4.10xlarge).
