Avalara Raises $20M

Seattle-based Avalara, the developer of sales tax automation software, has raised $20M in a funding round, according to the firm this morning. Avalara said the funding round was led by Battery Ventures, which joins The Benaroya Company, Pioneer Venture Partners, and Sageview Capital as investors in the company. Battery's Chelsea Stoner joins the company's baord with the funding. Avalara is led by Scott McFarlane, and develops software which helps e-commerce retailers manage the various local sales taxes required in different localities. The firm targets small and mid-sized businesses with its products. The firm said it was "not actively" looking for funding, but will use the funding to build the next phase of its business and tap a "huge opportunity" in the market. More information »
