Bidding War At Sprint Further Complicates Clearwire Bid

A new offer to acquire Sprint--from satellite television services firm DISH Network--complicates the already complicated set of transactions around the buyout of Bellevue-based broadband wireless infrastructure firm Clearwire. According to DISH Network, it is offering up to $25.5 billion in cash and stock for Sprint Nextel, which itself is in the middle of an acquisition of Clearwire, and which had earlier agreed to an acquisition by Japanese investor Softbank. DISH Network had already thrown a wrench into the buyout efforts by Sprint of Clearwire, when it put its own bid in for Clearwire in January.
