BlackSky Partners With United Nations Agency

Seattle-based satellite imaging provider BlackSky, which is deploying a commercial, satellite imagery network which it expects to start launching by 2017, said it has signed up the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) as a partner to the company. According to the company, UNITAR will use BlackSky's satellite constellation for humanitarian relief, human security, climate change adaptation, sustainable water management, territorial management, high priority peace-keeping missions, maritime monitoring of illegal activity, and more. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. BlackSky says it hopes to eventually have a 60-satellite constellation to provide high resolution capture of all of the Earth's populated areas.
