Clearwire Sets LTE Rollout Plan

Bellevue-based Clearwire has outlined its plans for rolling out its LTE-based, 4G network, saying that it will launch its TDD-LTE network to 31 cities in the first half of 2013. Clearwire said it will target "hot zones" in major urban centers, including New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Seattle. Clearwire said the zones targeted are areas where demand for 4G mobile bradband is high, and where carriers need the most wholesale capacity to meet their 4G demand. Clearwire is in the midst of a major transition from its pick of WiMAX as the backbone of its network; the firm guessed wrong, and now is suddenly playing catch-up in deploying 4G LTE.
