Code Fellows Backs New $100M Tech Opportunity Fund With $5M

Seattle-based Code Fellows, the coding school operator, is backing an effort to give away $100M in full tuition scholarships, for groups underrepresented in the tech workforce, including women and minorities. The company--along with fellow code school operator Iron Yard, and Operation HOPE--said the new $100M fund is aimed at increasing diversity in the tech industry by removing financial barriers and access to its coding school programs. The fund was mentioned in a speech by Vice President Joe Biden in St. Louis this morning. Code Fellows said that, for its part, it will offer up $5M in full tuition scholarships to support the program; Iron Yard will provide $40M in tuition, and the organizers are hoping to rope in additional employers, code schools, and civic organizations will make up the rest.
