Cray Aims At Big Data Analytics With New System

Seattle-based Cray is taking aim at the big data analytics market, with a new product is calling the Cray Urika-GX. According to Cray, the new system fuses supercomputing technology with open software for big data analytics. Pricing on the new system was not announced. Cray said the new system uses Intel Xeon Broadwell cores, and feature 22 terabytes of memory, 35 terabytes of local SSD storage, and its own, dedicated "Aries" supercomputing interconnect, which is required for solving big data problems. The company said its 42U 19-inch rack product will be available in Q3, with larger configurations becoming available in the second half of the year.
