Cray Debuts New, Low Cost Supercomputer

Seattle-based Cray said today that it has rolled out a new supercomputer, which starts at only $500,000. The new, air-cooled Cray XC30-AC supercomputer is aimed at technical enterprise users in the high performance computing field. According to Cray, it is looking to help provide high-end, HPC technology to users in the manufacturing, life sciences, financial services and energy sector. Cray's new line of computers is an attempt to move its supercomputers into the Fortune 1000. Typically, the multi-million dollar price tags for supercomputing technology has limited them to well heeled governments and Fortune 100 companies.
