Cray Delivers Second Supercomputer To Oil, Gas Company

Seattle-based supercomputer developer Cray says it has delivered a second, Cray XC Supercomputer to a customer in the oil and gas industry. Cray said Monday that it has provided a second, 12-cabinet XC to PGS, an oil and gas company which operates in the marine seismology market. The financial impact of the win was not announced. PGS bought its first Cray system in March, which it is using to create detailed images of the Gulf of Mexico's subsurface. Cray said the new Cray XC at PGS will be named "Galois", after the French mathematician Evariste Galois. The data analysis and imaging will be used by the customers of PGS to better locate oil and gas deposits.
