DFJ Frontier Bolsters Seattle Presence With Former MSNBC Head Merrill Brown

DFJ Frontier, the venture capital firm which has an office in Portland, is bolstering its Pacific Northwest connections today, saying that it has added former Seattle resident and MSNBC.com founder Merrill Brown as a Venture Partner. DFJ Frontier said Brown will be looking at opportunities both on the East Coast, as well as the Pacific Northwest. Brown lived in Seattle for nearly a decade, a period in which he founded MSNBC and went on to run the consumer businesses at RealNetworks. He was most recently at Montclair State University, and also was an advisor to Evri.com, the Vulcan-backed content discovery firm. Brown's long resume includes serving as SVP of RealNetworks' RealOne Service, and serving as Editor in Chief at MSNBC.com, starting in August of 1996.
