Donuts Gets $100M For Domain Name Registrar

A new, Bellevue-based startup focused on the domain name business, Donuts Inc., said today that it has raised $100M in funding from private equity and venture capital, to create a brand new, registry for top level domain names. The firm said it has applied for 307 new and varied generic top level domains (TLDs), as ICANN has begun to allow registration of almost any domain name extension beyond the normal .COM and .NET domains. The new funding comes form Austin Ventures, Adams Street Partners, Emergence Capital Partners, TOL Ventures, Generation Partners, and Stahurricane. The firm also said it has secured a revolving credit facility from Comerica Bank. The new funding will go to secure and operate its long list of top level domains. The new firm is headed by Paul Stahura. Stahura was formerly the President and Chief Strategy Officer of Demand Media, which acquired the domain registrar he founded, eNom, in 2006.
