eChemion Gets Funding For Battery Technology

Portland-based eChemion, a startup which develops chemical treatment technology for tripling the battery life of renewable energy storage batteries, has received follow on funlding from Oregon BEST, according to the company. eChemion receives $175,000 from Oregon BEST, which came alongside additional angel investments. eChemion is a spinout of Oregon State University, and is led by Bill Kesselring. The company has developed a chemical treatment which extends the life of "redox flow" batteries, which it says can extend the life of those batteries up to 20 years. Redox flow batteries are early in industry adoption, and have been pioneered at the Energy Department's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).
