Expedia Battling Florida Counties Over Taxes

Bellevue-based online travel site Expedia looks to be prevailing in a battle over taxes with a number of Florida counties. According to local Orlando papers, Expedia and its fellow online travel companies have been locked in a legal dispute with Florda counties, over whether they should be taxed on the amount of a room, or the total markup paid by travelers booking rooms online. So far, the online travel site looks to be prevailing, with a judge most recently ruling that travelers should pay those local room taxes on the actual amount paid for the rooms, not including those travel site markups.
