Extensis Launches Font Rental Service, WebINK

Portland-based Extensis has launched its new, software-as-a-service for font design and rental, WebINK, the company said today. According to Extensis the WebINK service is now fully available, and allows users to find and use over 2000 high quality, web fonts. Extensis makes those fonts available for inclusion in web sites via a monthly subscription. The firm has said the service will start at $0.99/month for personal web sites, based on usage, with high cost plans for commercial web sites. The launch comes as new competition in the space has recently appeared from web giant Google, which launches its own--free--web font software-as-a-service offering called Google Font API. Google's own font-as-a-service offering offers a much more, limited set of fonts--only nineteen fonts as of this morning--but Google appears to be looking to expand that count.
