Microsoft, Hyundai-Kia Ink Co-Development Deal
Computing heavyweight Microsoft Corp. reported Tuesday that it has signed a long-term agreement with automobile manufacturer Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group to co-develop next-generation in-car infotainment systems. According to the agreement, which was signed in Seoul, the two companies will deliver new systems based on the Microsoft Auto software platform. Microsoft said the partnership's first fruit will be an infotainment system that provides voice-controlled connectivity between mobile devices. Microsoft added that it expects the new device will be introduced in the North American market in 2010. In a related announcement, Microsoft said it, Hyundai-Kia and the Institute for Information Technology Advancement have signed a memorandum of understanding to co-establish an automotive IT innovation center with the goal of promoting innovation and opportunities for Korean software and device vendors in the global market.
