Cray Supports New AMD Processor

Seattle-based supercomputer maker Cray said this morning that its XE6 supercomputers are now available with AMD's new Opteron 6300 Series processor. Cray said the new "Piledriver" core processors provide up to 40 percent higher performance-per-watt than prior generations of AMD's chips. Cray said the support will allow its current Xe6 and XE6m customers to upgrade to AMD's higher performance processors.
