Gates Foundation Invests $52M In Vaccine Developer CureVac

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has made in investment in a German biopharmaceuticals company, as part of its efforts to support vaccine development, the foundation said this week. According to the foundation, it invested $52M in CureVac, which is based in Tubingen, Germany, and which is developing mRNA-based vaccine technologies. Separately, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation also said it would provide separate funding for several projects to develop vaccines based on CureVac's technology. That deal calls for CureVac to make any vaccines developed through the effort available at an affordable price in poor countries, while allowing CureVac to offer up the vaccine on its own in developed countries.
