Gist, the online personal contact management service started by T.A. McCann in Seattle, is being shut down by Research In Motion, according to a post from Gist. Gits, which had been acquired in February of 2011, said that the site will officially be closing on September 15, 2012, and that it is no longer accepting new users. Gift offered up a service which helped email users manage their contacts, by including social information and details for those contacts alongside their email. In explaining the shutdown, Gits said that its team has has been working on the new BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 contact apps and other, next generation BlackBerry 10 efforts. As a part of the shutdown, Gist said it has set up a number of ways to export data and contacts from the service into other services.
