Intellectual Ventures Buys Patent Portfolio

Bellevue, Washington-based Intellectual Ventures, the patent licensing firm run by former Microsoft CTO Nathan Myhrvold, said Wednesday that it has licensed a range of patents from Telcordia Technologies. Intellectual Ventures said that it has licesed approximately 500 of Telcordia's U.S. patents and corresponding international patents. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal will provide Telcordia--the former research and development arm of AT&T's Bell Laboratories--with a new revenue stream. Intellectual Ventures said it would both license and commit to future investment in R&D at Telcordia. Telcordia was split out of Bellcore in 1982, as part of the U.S. breakup of AT&T.
