Itron Wins Spanish Electric Utility

Liberty Lake, Washington-based smart meter maker Itron has scored a win in Europe, saying that Spanish electric utility firm Iberdrola has selected its meters for the first phase of its smart metering program. According to Itron, it will be responsible for development and integration of an advanced meter management system, including software and smart meters, for Iberdrola. Itron said the deployment will include the delivery of 100,000 meters to the city of Castellon, Spain, with the potential to include up to ten million meters throughout the country. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed.
