Kymeta Links With Satellite Operator O3b Networks

Redmond-based Kymeta, the spinout of Intellectual Ventures which is commercializing metamaterials-based antennas for satellite communications, has inked a deal with O3B Networks, a provider of satellite services. According to the two, they are in an agreement to develop flat panel satellite antennas for O3b's network. O3B said it is in the midst of launching a satellite constellation for high speed, fiber-like satellite services. Kymeta is developing satellite antennas which are flat, thin, lighter, and lower cost than existing antennas, and which the firm believes can be used in a number of new applications. FInancial details of the link between Kymeta and O3b Networks were not announced.
