M87 Gets $5M To Improve Wireless Coverage

Seattle-based M87, which develops software to help improve the speed of access to the Internet for wireless carriers and app developers using a network of peer-to-peer devices, has raised $5M in a funding round, the company announced late this morning. The funding was led by Madrona Venture Group, and also included Qualcomm Ventures and Trilogy Equity Partners. The company has appointed Cole Brodman as its CEO as part of the funding. M87 said its technology allows wireless carriers and app developers to enable device-to-device discovery, communications and proximate location information, creating a network of devices which it says "significantly improves" connectivity for phones in poor coverage areas.
