Microsoft, Novell Collaborate On Linux Interoperability

Microsoft and Novell said Thursday that the companies are working on providing better interoperability between Linux and Windows systems. The two companies said that the two have agreed to provide each other's customers with patent coverage for their respective products, at least until 2012. Microsoft will officially recommend SUSE Linux Enterprise to its customers who want both Windows and Linux solutions, and will also create a joint research facility to architect and test new software. The agreement focuses on virtualization, web services, and document format compability between Novell's OpenOffice and Microsoft Office.
