Microsoft Plans Retail Stores

Microsoft said late Thursday that the firm is looking to create a chain of Microsoft-branded retail stores, and has appointed a new VP to head up the efforts. According to Microsoft, it has hired on David Porter as Corporate Vice President of Retail Stores, and is looking for Porter to define the time frame, locations, and specifics of the effort. Porter was most recently at DreamWorks Animation SKG, and previously spent 25 years at Wal-Mart Stores, with his last position as Vice President and General Merchandise Manager of Entertainment. Microsoft did not detail its retail store plans, but said that the stores would "create deeper engagement with consumers."
