Portland-based
PingGadget, a new startup out of the University of Portland, is looking to take on microblogging--and Twitter--with a new service. According to PingGadget, it is launching a "next-generation" microblogging and social media service, which allows users to communicate with others, build groups, and post photos and videos. The firm said it differs from Twitter because it is focusing on location-centric use cases, either 493 cities and specific topics like jobs, classifieds, events, and more. The firm was founded by two recent University of Portland graduates.
