MOD Systems, NCR In Blockbuster Trial

Seattle-based MOD Systems, a maker of kiosks used to distribute media via memory cards in retail stores, and NCR Corporation, said today that the two are in a pilot for a digital kiosk in Blockbuster locations and other retail stores. According to the firms, the new system will allow consumers to download movies and TV shows onto secure digital (SD) memory cards for play on home televisions. Financial details and terms of the pilots were not disclosed. The firms said that NCR is already supplying Blockbuster at thousands of its locations with a DVD-rental kiosk called BLOCKBUSTER Express; the new system is a potential replacement for NCR's existing system. MOD is powering the new kiosks, which will allow consumers up to 30 days to watch a movie, and 48 hours after they start watching to finish it before DRM locks the content from future viewing.
