NuScale Taps NRC For Regulatory Head

Portland-based NuScale Power, the startup developing nuclear power generation technology--which it says is much safer than existing technology---has set a new VP heading up its regulatory efforts. According to NuScale, it has appointed Tom Bergman as its new Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, replacing retiring VP Ed Wallace. Bergman was most recently Director, Division of Engineering in the Office of New Reactors (NRO) and Deputy Regional Administrator (Acting), Region IV at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The NRC is the agency responsible for regulating the safety of nuclear power technology from companies such as NuScale. NuScale's majority investor is construction and engineering firm Fluor Corporation.
