Planar Systems Acquires Runco International

Specialty display manufacturer Planar Systems Inc. revealed Wednesday that it has acquired home theater specialist Runco International Inc. for $36.7 million. Planar said the funding consisted of $14.7 million in existing cash and $22 million borrowed from the company’s amended credit facility. Founded in 1987, Runco produces a range of high-end, custom home theater packages ranging in price from $3,000 to $250,000. Runco also owns the Vidikron brand. Established in 1983, Planar Systems is based in Beaverton, Oregon. The company produces specialty displays for various global markets, including hospitals, shopping centers, banks, government agencies and transportation businesses.
