PlayFab Lands $7.4M For Backend Game Tools

Seattle-based PlayFab has reportedly raised $7.4M in a funding round, according a report. The funding came from Benchmark Capital, along with Madrona Venture Group, Startup Capital Ventures, and angels. The company, led by James Gwertzmann, develops backend tools for tracking players, handling virtual good, providing game analytics and other aspects of online and mobile games. PlayFab has not yet formally announced the funding, and it appears the news--which is still in the news stream, but which has been pulled from the web--may have been leaked prematurely. PlayFab's software tools manage a wide range of back end functions for games, including handling in-game chats, storing per-user data, connecting with Facebook, Apple, Google Play, Xbox and other services, and much more.
