PopCap Games Raises $22.5M

Seattle-based casual games maker PopCap Games announced this morning that it has raised its first, ever, round of funding, worth $22.5M. The round was led by Meritech Capital Partners, and also included individuals Larry Bowman and John McCaw. According to PopCap, the first-ever funding round will give those investors a minority stake in the firm, which has been profitable since inception. PopCap said the funding will be used for additional working capital, and specifically so the firm can be "more aggressive" with an expansion into social media and new geographies. The firm said that PopCap's founders previously had sold some stock to Bowman, but that this investment was for operational purposes. More information »
