Portland Gets Free Wi-Fi

The City of Portland, Oregon today launched the beginnings of the city's free city-wide Wi-Fi network, saying that it has begun offering access in areas of downtown Portland near Pioneer Courthouse Square, and the Buckman, Lloyd and Kerns neighborhoods. The Wi-Fi network, which is being deployed as an ad-supported network by Silicon Valley firm MetroFi, is expected to offer free wireless acecss to 95 percent of the city. The free wireless network includes local content and serviecs from MSN, and according to MetroFi will be complete by mid 2008.
