Puppet Labs Buys MCollective

Portland-based Puppet Labs, a developer of open source, server management tools, said today that it has acquired the intellectual property of MCollective, which develops the open source Marionette Collective software. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Puppet Labs said that the project's founder, R.I. Pienaar, joins Puppet Labs' development team. Puppet Labs is venture backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, True Ventures, Kevin Compton of Radar Partners, and Glenn Winokur of Emerson St. Partners. Puppet said that MCollective provides software used for server orchestration and parallel job execution, used to broadcast requests to clusters of servers. Puppet Labs is headed by Luke Kanies.
