QThru Raises $3.5M For Self-Checkout Software

Seattle-based QThru, a startup aimed at the mobile market, said this week that it has launched its mobile software aimed at helping retail shoppers to check themselves out of stores and markets, backed by $3.5M in funding. The startup is headed by Aaron Roberts, a former software development manager from Research In Motion (RIM). QThru said its product--which has been being test for the past six months at the IGA Ridge Supermarket in Snoqualmie--allows users to check themselves out of stores, by scanning products with their smartphones and checking out on a kiosk using a QR code. Source of the funding for QThru was not announced. QThru says its product is a "Fraction of the cost" of normal self checkout stands. More information »
