    RealNetworks Acquires Sony NetServices


    Digital media heavyweight RealNetworks Inc. announced Wednesday that it has acquired Sony NetServices, a joint venture between Sony DADC and Sony Europe. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Sony NetServices provides mobile operators with promotional digital music and other services. Sony NetServices is currently available in eight European countries. RealNetworks said the acquisition is part of the company's strategy to extend its reach in the field of mobile digital entertainment delivery. RealNetworks added that Sony NetServices will continue operating from its Salzburg, Austria, headquarters under the name of RealNetworks GmbH. RealNetworks is based in Seattle, Washington.
