Silicon Valley VC Loses Life On Oregon's Rogue River

A Silicon Valley venture capitalists--vacationing in Oregon--has died as a result of a kayaking accident, the VC's family and firm said today. Mark R. Templeton, a Managing Director at Los Altos-based Scientific Ventures, has passed away after a kayaking accident, while kayaking with friends on the Rogue River. Templeton, who was 57, died on July 17th. Templeton was co-founder of Artisan Components, which was acquired by ARM Holdings in 2004. He served as President ARM North America & Chief Strategy Officer from 2004 until 2006, and also was involved with Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2), the EDA industry organization, was President and CEO of Fabrix (acquired by PDF Solutions); and served on the boards of TAKUMI, Ablesky, Adaptive Sound Technologies, and DXCorr Design. Templeton died after flipping over in a rapid at around 4:30pm on Sunday, according to the Medford Mail Tribune, which said Templeton was being guided multi-day trip in an inflatable one-person kayak. The Wildcat Rapids in that area are Class III rapids, which are considered intermediate level rapids. It appears Templeton overturned and was caught in a "strainer", pinning him underwater with no hope of recovery.
